Launch of 2022 Residential Female Artisanship Training Programme and Meeting With The Director General, National Centre For Women Development, Abuja
ACIOE Foundation, amongst other CSOs, supported Procter & Gamble and the Nigeria Centre for Women Development on the 2022 launch of residential female artisans in Nigeria. The event commenced at 10:20 am on Wednesday, the 16th of November 2022, with the singing of the National anthem and Women’s anthem, after which the Training Director at the NCWD gave a welcome address where she provided an overview of the training module. According to her, this was the 7th edition of the artisanship programme. This edition trained 115 women and girls in – AC and Refrigerator repairs, Generator repairs, Tiling and Masonry, POP installation, Electrical works, and Plumbing services. In his remarks, the Center’s technical director noted that this initiative was set up to plug the gender gap in the construction industry, with about 10,000 women empowered from 2016 to date. He informed all present that the training would be 30% theory and 70% practical. During her goodwill message, the APWBN president announced that the association would employ ten women at the end of their training session. At the same time, a member of the pioneer set of trainees in 2016 has offered to employ another 10 of the best-performing students.
The event had over 200 attendees and various media stations such as NTA, AIT, FRCN, Daily Trust, Leadership newspapers, News agencies of Nigeria, and others. Its highlights were the free distribution of sanitary pads donated by P&G and group photographs with the participants.
